BIO
Hi! I'm Kristyna Archer - a multidisciplinary artist working across film, photography, art, and tech creating visually-compelling, stylized worlds. Some common words used to describe my work are: vibrant, stylized, quirky, playful, whimisical. From growing up near 8 Mile Rd to gridlock on the 405, from house music in my college darkroom to avocado toast on the west coast, I've slowly reduced exposure to winter climates and become acclaimated to the second question of every conversation being "What's your sign?"
My default, absurdity. My love langauge, satire. Notoriously bad at small talk and will attempt to traverse topics from protopian futures to quantum entanglement to climate storytelling without missing a beat - yet still my mom wins at talking faster than me. Moonlights as the kooky, eclectic aunt that likes to disrupt the norms of her nieces and nephews lives in hopes of broadening their worldview and expanding their minds with every tiny interaction. Irony & abstraction is the lens through which I see the world, and my not-so-secret weapon for spreading joy and healing humanity. I hope to turn seemingly mundane moments into magic through every project I get my hands on.
Some on-set highlights include directing the incomparable Jason Alexander for Sanofi with Weber Shandwick, where I had to stiffle Jason's creative urges to go more "method," when he asked our team to apply bee sting sfx makeup and have a car run him over so the concept was more clear. Mind you, he probably didn't know our production budget, timing, and more importantly, the legal constraints in pharma campaigns - not exactly known to be risk-takers. Also, creating a tumbleweed of hair to roll over my cast in my "Buntervention" Pantene spot, and concepting a vagina & gut set for Renew Life with Funworks, was a highlight of absurdity! And recently diving deep into virtual production and Unreal Engine, world-building for Green Mountain Energy with 160over90 has become a force multiplier for my work. I am currently developing AI-infused concepts that push for innovation rooted in humanity, resurfacing the human in a deeply digital world. It has opened up Pandora's box for the type of work I specialize in, as I embark on the journey into an entirely new way of storytelling.
My passion projects focus on my ven diagram of impact; sustainablity - mental health - gender equity - and how I can create work that speaks to that interconnection, shines a light, flips a perspective, empowers the disempowered, whether it be through bringing comedy in climate storytelling, or raising up underrepresented voices through the work I create and the crews on my sets. I'm a Green The Bid ambassador pushing for more sustainability on set, and I started a podcast, The Treatment Forum, to demystify the treatment pitch process and nurture an open dialogue in our industry.
I can be found shamelessly pretending to know nothing about production and putting on my best "wholesome America" face for HGTV's "Ugliest House in America" in hopes of winning a free home reno. Although we didn't win, we have the esteemed title of "Ugliest House in the Pacific Region" - production was cheap, no plaque, no nothing! Now working on the endless joy of a forever renovation of my retro wood-paneled, linoleum palace - that's your perfect film location ;) Or playing fetch with my cat-dog Charlie Blanco, named after Charlie Chaplin by my comedian hubby.
Reach out no matter how early on you are in the creative process, or if it's a "this needs to shoot tomorrow" scramble - I'm always game for a challenge, good creative, and bringing talented people in one room for the sake of collaboration to make something that has never been made before.
We aren't conducting heart surgery or curing cancer, but we are shaping culture, and culture shapes human behavior - that impact is our zone of interest.
